Oh Charlene, I’m sorry!! They really were rubbish weren’t they. It’s lovely to hear that it struck a chord, but so sorry we all had the same crap lads. I love Edinburgh. A good friend was there and I came up to visit once, it’s such a magical place. I loved going up Arthur’s seat, what a spot. Magic ✨

Jill, I loved this so much. Geoff with a G could easily have been any number of the boys I met at Edinburgh Uni. Definitely better looking when asleep (not talking) and wearing delusions of grandeur as a personality trait. You really got me with the part about Facebook. I can't remember the quotes I chose but I can tell you right now they were insufferable. I'm saving this to read again later. A gem.

Catching up with the first half of The Notebooks, which I had never read. Fun binge reading.

I do remember climbing out of the women's dorm window at 5:00 am and sprinting across the grass, and women doing the Walk of Shame from my dorm at late hours. The more things change, the more things stay absolutely the same.

How did we cope without mobile phones? When phone bills came with call logs, I'd have a bag of quarters in the car and a mental map of every pay phone on the way home from work.

As far as I can tell, I joined Facebook around 2010. I'm in touch with no former lovers. One subject of my unrequited lust did track me down recently and reach out. Sorry, my dear, fifty years too late.

Ah the ingenuity of humankind. People finding ways to have illicit sex is the story of the world. ❤️

I *also* pretended to like / delusionally thought I liked Reservoir Dogs!!! I even had a poster! But why?! I found it so unpleasant!!!

Brilliant. Grazie. Oh those Geoffs. With a G. And a micro-history of "the palling of stuff," early days, still in progress. Your "long form self" appears alive and well....

Thank you for this generous comment, Kenneth. Long live the long form self.

Like Helen, you were far too good for that place!

It’s a flawed creature for sure - but aren’t we all? Worried I might be becoming a bit of an Oxford apologist, I have so much rueful love for the place
